Easy Beef and Broccoli (with or without Oyster Sauce)


Oddly enough rice is seriously a new things to me. Growing up the only. rare appearance of rice was boxed, Rice a Roni. When I met my husband, this starch loving guy, showed me how delicious it was. I was hooked on trying new types of rices and way to flavor it. In comes the Beef and Broccoli part lol. My husband loves Chinese food. I'm not a huge fan all the high sodium / MSG whole ordeal when it comes to ordering Chinese delivery. So, like any dish I try somewhere else, try and make it myself - the healthier way. My husband also likes to throw obstacles my way when it comes to food and recipes. He is allergic to shell fish (sad). This means that oyster sauce is off limits. So here is a with and without versions of the recipe :)
Prep Time: 10 Minutes Cook Time: 15 Minutes
Total Time: 25 Mintutes
Serves: 4 Ingredients - Steak (flank steak preferred. 1 lb) - Onion (small, diced) - Oyster Sauce (2Tbsp)
- Corn Starch (2 Tbsp) - Baking Soda (1/4 tsp) - Broccoli (3 cups) - Olive Oil (1 Tbsp) - Brown Sugar (1 Tbsp) - Sesame Oil (2 Tbsp) - Ginger (1 Tbsp, minced)
For the Sauce - Soy Sauce (1/4 cup), Oyster Sauce (1 Tbsp), Brown Sugar, Garlic, Corn Starch (1 Tbsp), Sesame Oil, and Ginger. Instructions: 1. In a bowl combined sliced steak (against the grain), 1 Tbsp of oyster sauce, 1 Tbsp corn starch, 1 Tbsp water, and 1/4 tsp baking soda. Toss and set aside. 2. Add all ingredients of the sauce to a bowl and whisk.3. In a large frying pan on medium high heat add olive oil and onions. Once hot add the steak mixture. Cooking for approx 2-3 minutes on medium high heat. 3. Add sauce mixture and continue cooking for 1 minute or until fragrant. Add Broccoli, cover and cook for another 3-4 minutes or until broccoli is steamed to desired tenderness. Bon Appetite
Note: If you don't like oyster sauce, substitute it with 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce and 1/2 Tbsp brown sugar. It doesn't taste exactly the same, but in a pinch will do :)
