I'm in my tater tot era, and I won't apologize for it. I mean look at this smashed tater tot pizza. It has a crispy potato crust with all your favourite pizza toppings. Done in my cast iron pan on my pellet grill. Let me show you just how easy and delicious this tater tot pizza recipe.
I did not know if I'd get this tater tots crispy enough I could pull it out of the cast iron pan seamlessly, but when I did I was super excited about this tater tot pizza recipe. I love how crispy tater tots can get so smashing them still held them together.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
PELLET GRILL: I used my Pit Boss Grills Navigator
CAST IRON: I used my Pit Boss Grills Cast Iron
PELLETS: I used a Cherry blend by Pit Boss Grills
INGREDIENTS
Tater Tots (3/4 of bag, defrosted)
Pizza Sauce (1/4 cup)
Cheese (Marble or Mozzarella 1 cup)
Favourite Pizza Toppings
INSTRUCTIONS
Preheat your Pit Boss Navigator to 400 degrees. Using your cast iron skillet pack your defrosted tater tots as tight as possible. Using a fork or potato smasher, smash the tater tots so they all smush together. Grill your smashed tater tot pizza for approximately 30 minutes to crisp up your crust.
Next, build your pizza. Remove the pan from the grill, add your pizza sauce, cheese, and your favourite pizza toppings. We did onions and jalapenos that night. Place back on your BBQ until your cheese is melted and your edges are crispy. Carefully remove from pan, slice, and serve. There you have your tater tot pizza recipe.
